Here at Splasher’s Grill, we cherish the important things in life: family, friends, community, laughter, great food, and good health. The dark specter of cancer is all too common, and it’s likely that most of us know at least one close friend or family member who has battled cancer.
According to a report by the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States, only behind heart disease. The ACS estimates that over 1.5 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and that more than 500,000 Americans will lose their battle with cancer this year.
We can’t just ignore cancer or hope that it doesn’t hit too close to home. That’s why Splasher’s Grill is proud to donate to Bill Hughes’s Relay For Life team, Positive Latitudes. On Saturday, July 12th, Bill and the other members of Positive Latitudes will join 260 other participants for Relay For Life Kona at Old Airport Park.
If you’ve never been to a Relay For Life event, the experience is really cool. The main action is on a big track where a member from each team walks around the track, switching with other team members throughout the night. Food, games, and celebrations take place while the walking progresses. Each team member raises funds before the event, which are donated to the American Cancer Society. The money goes toward cancer research, patient transportation, counseling, and much more.
We are thrilled to support Relay for Life, and specifically to support Bill Hughes who is now four years cancer free! Bill has already successfully raise $765 for the ACS, but there’s still time to raise more for this great cause. We invite you to donate to Bill and to drop by the event and cheer the 34 teams that will be literally “walking the walk” to fight cancer, celebrate cancer survivors, and remember those who have lost their lives to cancer.
Splasher’s Grill, not only donated money we are committed to donating food for all the cancer life survivors dinner at this same event.
